Teresa Henrichs

Teresa Henrichs has been teaching Suzuki violin and viola for ten years as the director of the Waterford Community Talent Education program in Waterford, MI, at the University of Houston, and in a private studio. She has had Suzuki teacher training classes with teachers from across the nation, including short term courses at Suzuki institutes in Stevens Point, WI, Snowmass, CO, Santa Fe, NM, and Washington, D.C., as well as long term teacher training with Judy Offman in Houston, TX. She has served as president of the Houston Area Suzuki Strings Association (HASSA) and as chair of a Suzuki Association of the Americas (SAA) conference committee. She has taught at several Suzuki workshops in Houston.

In addition to her studio teaching, Teresa has taught orchestra classes in several schools in Waterford, MI and at St. John's School in Houston, TX, coached award winning chamber ensembles, and has led violin and viola sectionals for the Houston Youth Symphony and the Greater Houston Youth Orchestra. She has served as a judge for the Greater Houston Youth Orchestra concerto competition, and for the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Region and All-State orchestras. Her students have been members of Texas Music Educators Association Region and All-State Orchestras, and concertmasters, section leaders and concerto competition winners of youth orchestras and school orchestras.

Teresa continues to develop her teaching skills each year in Suzuki teacher training classes, workshops in the United States and abroad, and SAA, TMEA, or American String Teachers Association (ASTA) conferences. Her principal teachers have included Yitzhak Schotten and Lawrence Wheeler. A graduate with honors of the University of Michigan (BM) and the University of Houston (MM), Teresa has performed with orchestras and chamber ensembles in Michigan and Texas, enjoys playing Irish and other folk music, and performs regularly throughout Texas with a contra dance band named Perfect 5th.
