Teresa Henrichs

Teresa
Henrichs has been teaching Suzuki violin and viola for ten
years as the director of the Waterford Community Talent Education
program in Waterford, MI, at the University of Houston, and
in a private studio. She has had Suzuki teacher training classes
with teachers from across the nation, including short term
courses at Suzuki institutes in Stevens Point, WI, Snowmass,
CO, Santa Fe, NM, and Washington, D.C., as well as long term
teacher training with Judy Offman in Houston, TX. She has
served as president of the Houston Area Suzuki Strings Association
(HASSA) and as chair of a Suzuki Association of the Americas
(SAA) conference committee. She has taught at several Suzuki
workshops in Houston.
In addition to her studio teaching, Teresa
has taught orchestra classes in several schools in Waterford,
MI and at St. John's School in Houston, TX, coached award
winning chamber ensembles, and has led violin and viola sectionals
for the Houston Youth Symphony and the Greater Houston Youth
Orchestra. She has served as a judge for the Greater Houston
Youth Orchestra concerto competition, and for the Texas Music
Educators Association (TMEA) Region and All-State orchestras. Her
students have been members of Texas Music Educators Association
Region and All-State Orchestras, and concertmasters,
section leaders and concerto competition winners of youth
orchestras and school orchestras.
Teresa continues to develop her teaching skills each year
in Suzuki teacher training classes, workshops in the United
States and abroad, and SAA, TMEA, or American String Teachers
Association (ASTA) conferences. Her principal teachers have
included Yitzhak Schotten and Lawrence Wheeler. A graduate
with honors of the University of Michigan (BM) and the University
of Houston (MM), Teresa has performed with orchestras and
chamber ensembles in Michigan and Texas, enjoys playing Irish
and other folk music, and performs regularly throughout Texas
with a contra dance band named Perfect 5th.
